About 90 percent of all psychological problems stem from poor self-image and
lack of confidence. In his book the author, psychologist Michael Ben-Menachem
PhD of Gothenburg describes various theories of how our self-image arises and
how it can be affected and how self-confidence can be strengthened. Since he is
a psychologist who focuses on behavioral psychology Michael Ben-Menachem
has primarily examined the role of learning. Many parents are often not aware
that their behavior and attitudes towards children play a decisive – perhaps even
vital – part in the children’s future. Despite the considerable responsibility that
is inherent in parenting, society does very little to organize parenting education.
And expert guide books and courses on how to be a good parent are still few and
far between. In the same way as you are required to take a course to qualify to
drive a car, some kind of “license in bringing up children” ought to be required
of parents-to-be, the author writes. The book “Children in the Looking-Glass” is
not an expert guide book in child psychology or a theoretical representation of
children in various stages of development. The author’s aim was to write a book
in which the reader easily recognizes himself. The book should be a good help
for many parents to become aware of their own mistakes and thus hopefully
become better at educating children. “Children in the Looking-Glass” should be
able to be used as a source of inspiration, both for individual studies and in study
groups.
